Spartacus: Blood and Sand is a Starz original TV series that premiered on January 22, 2010 on Starz. The series focuses on Spartacus, a Roman gladiator (played by Andy Whitfield), who later became the leader of a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. The show has been rated TV-MA for graphic violence, extreme sexuality and major profanity.

The series premiere introduced the origin of an unknown Thracian, started with his involvement in the war against the Getae in the Roman auxiliary under the command of the Roman Legate, Claudius Glaber. Following the first battle, the Thracian and another volunteered to perform a reconnaissance mission at the behest of the Roman Legate, as they discerned that the Gatean army is marching west towards the Thracian villages. However, Glaber persuaded by his wife Ilithyia to seek greater glory, decides to head east instead to confront the forces of Mithradates. The Thracian feeling betrayed, attacked the Legate and his tribunes, and most of them fled back to their villages as the Legate feigned his death while lying on the ground.
The Thracian managed to make it back in time to save his wife from a band of Gatea, however he was unable to save his village as they watched it burn. They travelled south and spent the night in the wild, however, Glaber who did not die in the confrontation caught up with them the next day. The Thracian is condemned to die in the arena while his wife wrestled from his arms and sold into slavery. The group of Thracians were transported to Capua, where they will be executed in the arena.
